Settings > Settings > Custom Fields

The screenshot above shows a typical auction item. Custom Fields relating to this auction item are shown in the area marked red.

Custom Fields dramatically increase the flexibility of your auction site in terms of ensuring that the buyer is presented with the information on auction listings he/she's looking for in your specialist auction site. Just as important is the filtering option the user is presented with. The so called "persistent filter" helps buyers find exactly what they are looking for.

Particularly, when you are running a niche auction site, Custom Fields can ensure that the seller lists all the pertinent information for his item and helps the buyer finding the items they are interested in.

In the screenshot below you can see that a number of Custom Fields have been set up.

To add a new Custom Field, click "Add New Custom Field" (image above). To edit a particular field, click the pen icon (image above). To delete a Custom Field, click the pen icon and in the screen that follows, click "Delete" (image below).

Please note that Custom Fields are shown on the site in the order you have set them up and currently, you cannot change the order in which the Custom Fields are shown, so please give due consideration to what fields you wish to add prior to just adding Custom Fields.

When setting up a new Custom Field, please be aware of the length of the Label/Title field. We suggest that the Label/Title should not be longer than 25 characters.

The types of Custom Fields are as follows:

Text > One line of text to be entered when listing an auction item.

Text Area > Choose this if you want your users to be able to put a number of lines of text. This however is not really recommended.

Dropdown > Use this to present a number of options in a dropdown box.

Radio > Use this type to provide an on/off type option represented by radio buttons.

Checkbox > Choose this option if you want to present a number of options whereby the user can tick one or more boxes.

URL > Choose this option if you want users to enter a web address, e.g. https://blackdownit.co.uk.

Date > Present a date, e.g. the date on which the item was last serviced.

Dateinterval > This option type represents e.g. a start and end date.

Choose whether you want the Custom Field to be required to be filled in.

Select one or more Categories for which you want the Custom Field to be active. In the example above, the Custom Field "R.I.B. design  category" is only used for categories Sports and cruising R.I.B.s, Commercial and Rescue R.I.B.s and Tender R.I.B.s. It is not used for Outboard Engines.

For Custom Field types Dropdown, Radio and Checkbox, you need to enter the options you wish to provide. Each option should be separated by a comma, for example "BMW,Mercedes,Volkswagen." It makes sense to have your options listed in alphabetical order.

Custom Fields are are shown on your auction site as shown below on the left hand hand side. Your users are able to filter to exactly what they are looking for by clicking and selecting each Custom Field name or Category. Each selection narrows the results shown.
